2022 August full moon is another super moon

The August full moon in 2022 – and its giant moon – rises near sunset on August 11. Directly above it is Saturn which reaches its resistance level a few days later on August 14, 2022. Because of the bright moonlight, it may be difficult for Saturn to spot. An eagle in the constellation Aquila The eagle is higher in the sky. Diagram via John Goss.

The overnight full moon on August 11-12 is also the last super full moon of 2022.

Watch date in 2022: Overnight from 11-12 August.
Where to look: Look for the bright round moon in the east at sunset, highest in the sky around midnight, and lowest in the west before sunrise.
top of the full moon It falls at 1:36 UTC on August 12, 2022. This is 8:36 PM CST on August 11 in central North America – about the time of moonrise on the evening of August 11. So, if you live in North or South America, your full moon hangs low in the east shortly after sunset on August 11th.
NB: All full moons rise along the eastern horizon near sunset time, and set in the west near sunrise. It appears on the other side of the sky as the sun. As a result, full moons appear throughout the night. At the full moon, the Sun, Earth, and Moon line up in space and the Earth is in the middle. The day of the moon – its fully lit hemisphere – faces us directly. This is why the moon appears full.

In addition, the moon rises about an hour later every passing day because it moves east in its orbit. So the moon appears full and round the day before, and the day after the crest of its full phase. For this month, these two dates fall on the nights of August 10 and 12.

It’s the sturgeon moon

August 2022 Full Moon in Capricorn
The August full moon can fall in front of one of two constellations. One is Capricorn, the sea-goat, and the other is Aquarius, the water-bearer. As seen from the Americas, the full moon on the night of August 11-12, 2022 will be in a direction southeast of Capricorn.

The full moon of August meets Saturn
The full sturgeon moon will illuminate the sky around it, wiping out all the stars except the brightest. However, in this month, a point of light shines directly above the full moon – if it can be seen in the very bright moonlight. This is not a star. This is the sixth planet from the Sun, Saturn that reaches resistance level on August 14, 2022. If the glare of moonlight is too bright to see Saturn, simply place the moon behind your hand, or block it with a forward feature such as a utility pole or roof. Now, the planet is clearly visible!

Our Moon revolves around the Earth in roughly the same plane as the Earth revolves around the Sun. The orbital plane of the Earth is called the ecliptic and all the bright planets are located near it. This month, the moon shines below the planet Saturn, which is next to the ecliptic. Other years see the August full moon at various distances either above or below the ecliptic after an 18-year cycle.

Conclusion: The sturgeon full moon appears overnight on August 11-12, 2022, and is located directly below Saturn in the constellation Capricorn. It is also the last full supermoon in 2022.
