2022 Preakness Stakes Horses, contenders, odds, history: The expert who called for the double-stock pick for the Kentucky Derby

After a thrilling win as an 80-1 loser in the Kentucky Derby, Rich Strike owner Richard Dawson announced that the colt will not enter the 2022 Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 21 at the Pimlico Race Course. Coach Eric Reed originally planned to hold the Rich Strike up to the Belmont Stakes after running the Kentucky Derby, and despite Triple Crown’s allure, he chose to stick with the script. However, the Epicenter and Kentucky Derby runner-up are the 3-1 favorite in the 2022 Preakness Stakes after leading the way in earning points ahead of the Kentucky Derby, falling victim to an unusually fast opening pace. With so much in mind, you’ll want to know what SportsLine’s Jody Demling has to say before getting into any of your 2022 Preakness Stakes picks or your horse racing predictions.

A fixture in the world of horse racing who has been writing, talking about and betting on races for years, Deming has been on the cutting edge with his horse racing bets. In fact, this is the same expert who called the Preakness winner nine times in the last 17 years. In the 2020 Preakness Stakes, Dimming successfully hit the Swiss skydiving target with precision.

He hit exactly at the Wood Memorial in April. Last year, he made it to the minute hit, trifecta and superfecta at the Belmont Stakes. He’s also hit a Derby Oaks double at Churchill Downs 10 times in the last 14 years, including this year’s massive upset with Rich Strike. That means he’s been holding a ticket with the winners of both the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby all but four times in his last 14 attempts.

Plus, at some point in 2020, he picked the winners of six consecutive races: the Saudi Cup, Gotham Stakes, Rebel Stakes, Louisiana Derby, Florida Derby, and Belmont Stakes. Everyone who followed him in these races is the way.

Now, with the 2022 Preakness Stakes looming, Dimming shares his picks and predictions for SportsLine. Go here to see them.

Biggest Predictions 2022 Preakness Stakes

One of the surprise Preakness Stakes picks for 2022: He’s skimming the secret section, saying that one of the top favorites barely tops the top three. The three-year-old filly has been confirmed at Preakness Stakes 2022 and is currently listed at 11-2 after an impressive win at the Kentucky Oaks.

However, the last time I ran with the boys in the Arkansas derby, it didn’t get a solid ride and coach De Wayne Lucas admitted they simply got hit. “We ran away,” Lucas said. “The race didn’t unfold like you would have liked. It didn’t come together. We crashed at first and that put her back too far and then she made that monster move (in the second turn). It’s hard to maintain.”

Another amazing thing: Demling stands out for his ability to simplify, even though he’s not an 8-1 filter. Dimming notes that streamlining was “closing in” at the end of the Kentucky Derby, but he finished fourth behind Rich Strike, Epicenter and Zandon. The streamlined game finished third in the Florida Derby and won the Fountain of Youth award. He’s only competed in one race outside of Florida, but he has plenty of upside after a solid finish at Run for the Roses.
