Andrea Harrington, Berkshire County District Attorney, says the money is returned in a timely manner…

The victims in this case overwhelmingly supported a decision that would return most of the money in the most appropriate way while sparing them, many of whom are elderly and live out of state, from having to travel to Massachusetts to testify. I am proud that my office has reached a resolution that secures a guilty verdict and restores the victims’ loss. I thank the Adams Police Department for their detailed and thorough investigation of this chart.

The court required defendants to make compensation payments before accepting the petition, ensuring that victims get their money back quickly and in a greater amount than through a jury trial and subsequent compensation hearing.

The plan was to defraud people with a phone scam…

According to the attorney general’s office, the three operated a multi-state scheme aimed at defrauding individuals through telephone scams. Police in other jurisdictions in the country alerted Adams Police in March 2020 that victims were sending parcels of money to addresses in Adams Town. Adams Police and the Berkshire State Police detective unit assigned to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office conducted a three-month investigation. Police assisted in Lansboro, North Adams, Pittsfield, Williamstown, Husic Falls, New York, and the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office. During this investigation, victims and law enforcement intercepted and returned packages sent by victims totaling $106,000. In June, local law enforcement executed 27 search warrants, identifying a company in Adams as serving as the headquarters.

The court upheld the convictions of Ajaykumar Chaudhary and Jitendra Chaudhary for two years and sentenced Parth Chaudhary to the term served, which was nearly eight months.
