Rodeo fishing group for kids on July 30

Take your kids outside for a catch on the morning of July 30 at the 61st Annual Kids’ Fishing Rodeo in the East Ascension Sportsman’s League.

This hunting tournament is open to all kids between the ages of 2 and 14 and is free thanks to the many sponsors who are helping the league with this event. The tournament takes place at Twin Lakes Mobile Estates, 37313 La.74.

Registration starts at 6:30 AM and fishing is from 7 AM until 9 AM

Kids will need to either have a cane shaft or a rod and pulley. Crickets will be provided, or you can bring your own live bait, but no competition artificial baits are allowed.

Kids will also need a bucket to hold the fish they catch. Parents should bring lawn chairs, hats, plenty of sunscreen, and cool water to drink while hunting.

After the hunt is over, jambalaya, hot dogs and drinks will be served.

Vaccinations offered

The Ascension Parish Health Unit provides the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 6 months to 5 years. The health unit also provides COVID-19 vaccines and boosters to anyone over the age of 18. Call (225) 644-4582 to schedule an appointment.

This factual discussion about a normal part of growing up will be at 9 a.m. August 6 at the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzalez. The class is for girls from 9 to 11 years old and their parent or guardian. Registration for the free class is required before noon on August 5.

Summer farmers market every Saturday

The outdoor farmers market on Highway 621, 39275 No. 621, has started its new season. The market will be open from 7 a.m. to noon every Saturday through August.

The market includes fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, sauce, baked goods and other items.

The recycling center is located at the Department of Public Works headquarters, 42077 Church Point Road, in Gonzales. Opening hours are 7am to 4pm Monday through Thursday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday.

TOPS club meets
