American Hat uses mid-19th century presses and sewing machines that have been in service since before the 1950s. Each piece of machinery is specialized in every step of the hat making process. Additionally, each hat is hand finished and polished. The only cowboy hat that can live up to the style, quality, and durability you’ve come to expect from an American made product is a hat made by American Hat.

American Hat takes great pride in the fact that there are no set expectations for men’s and women’s hats. Hats are not limited to one style, so people can make a hat that specifically suits them. Hat shapes and styles also vary depending on location, lifestyle, and personal preference. American Hat offers you a selection of high quality hats in different price and color ranges, as well as your choice of hat shape including crowns, pleats and brim.

There are two main types of hats, felt and straw. Felt hats, usually worn in the colder months, are very popular because they came before their straw counterparts. Straw hats are usually worn in summer because the material and ventilation holes are much better for warmer weather. Additionally, straw hats can be made of many different materials, colors, and patterns as well.

American Hat Company hats are sold worldwide in most Western stores. However, you will not be able to purchase a hat directly from their facility in Bowie, Texas as it is for wholesale only. When shopping for your American hat, a hat shaper will be an integral part of making it look exactly the way you want it to. They will use steam to shape your hat according to your face, style and liking. If you don’t already have a signature look you’d prefer to wear, this will help you determine the shape of the crown and hem. The crown is the top part of the hat that covers your head with the brim being the flat part that keeps the sun off your face and shoulders. Listed below are some crown styles.

open crown

The American Hat is known for its open crown and flat brim, which means it’s a cowboy hat without a crown or shaped brim. All hats initially start as open and flat, then the customer has the opportunity to shape his hat to his exact specifications with the help of a hat shaper. You will have more ability to make these changes as the shaper is shaping the hat because it hasn’t been set to cool and set shape yet. This is something other hat companies have shied away from because it’s easier to get hat patterns that are already finished. American Hat has taken that extra step and wants you to have the perfect custom hat that fits your personality. Black is the best-selling color year after year.

The cattle would be the most common and traditional form of the hat. It is characterized by the presence of a central cavity in the middle of the crown, with two indentations on either side of the crown. It is the oldest drape found in cowboy hats and one of the best-selling and popular styles decade after decade. The natural color can be great for both a work hat and a dress hat due to the light color.

West Texas Punch

West Texas Punch, or WTP for short, is usually associated with West Texas cowboys. This is where you’ll see this shape more often, especially on larger 5-inch hats rather than the standard 4 1/4-inch brim hat. It’s big, bold, and super simple.

cool, luke

The Cool Hand Luke, or CHL for short, is usually worn by bull riders, rough stock riders, and the younger crowd. It’s a less traditional look and can easily become a part of your signature style.

The Gus is a hat shape created as a poem by Augustus McCray from the movie Lonesome Dove. This style is for men or women who want that old western type of look for their hat crown style.

The Minnick shape is a more modern shape worn by people of all ages. It is very similar to the Cattleman style but the crown will be a bit longer which makes it a modern man. People who traditionally ride horses or compete on horseback can wear a Minnick hat and the bottom is more tightly on their head, so there is less chance of it coming off when riding. This is seen on the Silver Sand hat which is more of a dress hat for special occasions due to the much lighter color.

hat fashion

Fashion hats can come in many colors, shapes, and thousands of other customizations to make the hat yours. They basically have a shorter brim and a more feminine crown. Creativity is absolutely limitless with Fashion Hat.
