Around Polk County

1 Around Lakeland, at Saddle Creek, bass are biting around the park on black and blue or tequila sunrise color worms rigged on football head jig. Deeper water rock piles and drop-offs are producing the best numbers. Bluegill and tilapia are biting crickets and red worms along the banks. Around town, Lake Parker is still producing good numbers of bluegill and shellcracker in the pads on crickets, red worms and grass shrimp. Bass are biting there on speed worms and spinnerbaits in the hydrilla, but flipping the cattails with creature baits are producing the bigger fish. Lake Hollingsworth is still producing specks on minnows in deep water around 6 to 8 feet deep, reports Kyle Stafford at Phillips Bait and Tackle (863-666-2248).
