PHOENIX – The long-running Downtown Phoenix Farmers Market throws open the figurative doors to its new home Saturday.
The market, operating since 2005, has moved to the Phoenix Bioscience Core at Fifth and McKinley streets and will run from 7:30 am to 11 am through October. Hours the rest of year will remain from 8 am to 1 pm
“This move and the partnership with PBC allows us to write the next chapter of the Downtown Phoenix Farmers Market and to continue the good work started by Cindy Gentry and others,” Tanya Chakravarty, executive director of the farmers market, said in a press release .
After years at a space on Central Avenue and McKinley Street, the Downtown Phoenix Farmer’s Market will take up a larger spot in the south parking lot of a development called 850 PBC.
The nonprofit’s grand opening will feature Somali cuisine from Hoyo’s, fried catfish and chicken from Aaron Michaels Concession, Yo! Donut and food trucks including Urban Grounds, Maya’s Cajun Kitchen and Naturally Sweet.
Blue Sky Organic Farm and Crooked Sky Farms will continue in their roles as anchors for the market and its more than 90 farmers and vendors. Food isn’t the only thing on the market menu. Sellers offer up beauty products, jewelry and art.
Shoppers can bring their pets.
Free parking with market validation will be available at the Fillmore Street garage; paid parking and metered street parking will also be at shoppers’ disposal.
