To start, the card is constructed from durable metal that has been mined directly from a retired Delta 747. It also has a unique design that details the specific plane the card was made from – facts include the number of miles the plane flew, the date of its first flight, and more.

Besides making the card stylish and collectible, this matches Delta’s initiatives to be more environmentally conscious by eliminating the use of more plastic. And if nothing else, it’s a great piece of history and a good conversation starter.

To get the Limited Edition 747 design, you will need to apply for a Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express card and choose your preferred design when asked.

But most importantly, the card comes with great features for the avid Delta flyers.

To get started, you can earn 100,000 Delta SkyMiles as part of the welcome bonus. To earn this, you must spend $5,000 on purchases on your new card in the first three months. This bonus is worth about $1,200 on Delta flights, based on valuing Delta SkyMiles at 1.2 cents each.

And when you spend with the card, you’ll earn:

  • 3 times more miles for every dollar spent on Delta purchases made directly with the airline
  • 1X Mile per dollar spent on all other eligible purchases

With these categories in mind, the card is best used for Delta purchases only such as airline tickets and payment for checked baggage. But the real value of the card lies in the benefits which include:

  • status batch: If you travel a lot with Delta and aim to earn status, a Delta Reserve Card can help you get there faster. You can earn 15,000 Medallion Qualifying Miles (MQMs) after you spend $30,000 on purchases with your Card in a calendar year, up to four times a year. This feature will help you earn medal status faster.
  • MQD Waiver: You may waive the MQD requirement for Platinum, Gold, or Silver status after making purchases of at least $25,000 in that calendar year with your eligible Delta Card.
  • arrival terminal: By getting the card, you get access to a large number of airport lounges, including Delta Sky Club and American Express Centurion lounges. This feature alone can be cheaper than purchasing a Sky Club membership directly from Delta.
  • Companion Certificate: Each year when you pay your annual fee, you’ll receive a Good Companion Certificate for one round trip within the neighboring 48 states (conditions apply). So if you book a return ticket in First Class for yourself, you can invite a friend for free and lower taxes and fees.
  • Priority for seat upgrades: If you currently have a Delta Elite status, you will be given priority over other status holders
  • First checked bag free on Delta flights
  • Up to $100 credit for Global Entry/TSA PreCheck every four years
  • 20% refund on in-flight purchases with Delta when using the card
  • Comprehensive travel insurance*
  • No foreign transaction fees

How to Maximize Delta Sky Miles

When you earn Delta SkyMiles from travel, from Delta Reserve Card or even other cards – there are a few things to remember to maximize your miles.

Keep in mind the value of SkyMiles while you book

Delta SkyMiles offers solid value and a way for travelers to fly for free – however, just like cash, SkyMiles should be spent wisely.

Many award-winning travel experts estimate Delta SkyMiles to be worth 1.2 cents per point. So while redeeming your miles, be sure to do the math on the tickets you book to see if you’re getting a fair value.

Remember Delta’s SkyTeam partners

The biggest part of earning Delta SkyMiles is that you’re not just limited to booking Delta flights. When you search on the Delta website, you may see other airlines listed in their search engine, especially when searching for international flights.

This is because Delta is part of the SkyTeam alliance, which consists of 17 other global airlines. This partnership can be useful if you enjoy international travel and want to save on those trips.

Consider several cards that win Delta SkyMiles

Getting a travel rewards credit card and using it for your daily expenses is one of the best ways to earn travel rewards consistently. However, using multiple cards to earn multiple welcome rewards can push your rewards balance forward quickly.

So, if you are a Delta Flyer user (or its partners), you may consider getting one of the other Delta co-branded credit cards, like these:

If you’re looking for more flexibility, consider earning transferable rewards like American Express Membership Rewards from American Express® Gold Card or Platinum Card® from American Express. With these rewards, you can transfer them directly to Delta SkyMiles at a 1:1 ratio, along with a list of other airline and hotel partners.
