Hunting, fishing opportunities up for grabs through lottery

The Ohio Division of Wildlife is holding a lottery for a rainbow trout fishing experience at Cold Creek in Erie County.

Placing a $3 bet with the Ohio Division of Wildlife this month won’t bring champagne, allow one to burn their mortgage or tell a boss to take this job and shove it.

Instead, winners will receive special fishing and hunting opportunities, but bettors must place applications, with a non-refundable $3 ante, no later than March 31.

The fishing lottery is held to award slots along a half-mile stretch of Cold Creek in Erie County on property where the wildlife division operates a trout hatchery.

The clear, spring-fed creek teems with mature trout. Lottery winners are assigned a block of time during which they and up to five guests can cast and catch rainbows.

Fishing dates run May 24 through Nov. 26.

There are separate lotteries for adults and youths. Anglers age 16 and older must hold an Ohio fishing license.
