Children’s Day in the Parks is a national day of outdoor play promoted by the National Parks Trust. This year, the event will be hosted in Mills Park from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 21, 2022 and will include educational kiosks, music, food, outdoor activities and the Olympics Carson City Junior Park Ranger! The entire community is invited to join in on this fun day of outdoor play.
The Junior Olympics will be a fun 6-stage obstacle course that will test Carson City Junior Park Rangers on the skills they need to become the Park Rangers of the future. Skills to be tested include backpack packing, lane maintenance, physical agility, sorting maps and brochures, first aid and opening gates.
The 50-yard course will begin at 10:00 a.m. and run every 20 minutes. It is open to children who can skip obstacles, read, and sort through things. Prizes will be awarded to all first, second and third place winners. Kids will be able to practice the course between rounds and sign up for a slot in the event.
The Wheel House will host a Skate Jam competition at the skate park. They provide music for the event, set up obstacle skating, run trick competitions and give out prizes. Skate Jam will start at 10:00 AM.
Bone Appetit Bar-B-Que Grill will serve food and beverages for the event and will include a special kids menu exclusively for kids on Parks Day. Scoups Ice Cream & Soup Bar will offer ice cream options.
The Carson City Railroad Association will operate the Carson & Mills Railroad 24 hours a day along 1.5 miles of designated track around Mills Park. All day rides will be free. Find the railway station off the Seely Loop next to the entrance to Marv Teixeira Pavilion.
Carson City Multipurpose Athletic Center (MAC) will be free admission to all users for the day in celebration of Children’s Day in the Parks. MAC is located at 1860 Russell Way, Carson City, NV 89706.
