Mahindra’s new Scorpio provocation has been widely publicized over the past few days. Now the unhidden photos of the 3rd generation SUV have leaked online. With its launch in June, which will also mark the 20th birth anniversary of the nameplate in India, the new picks give a sneak peek at what’s coming to you.

Mahindra's new Scorpio side

Mahindra is back on the drawing board to create a vehicle that is vastly different from today’s SUV. The next-generation Scorpio looks tall and majestic, with large wheel arches and what appears to be an extended wheelbase. The spy SUV is finished in white with the older Mahindra logo. Let us know that the production series will adorn the new logo that debuted with the XUV700.

Inspired by previous generation models, the front end of the new Mahindra Scorpio is reminiscent of its predecessors. The rear view looks fresh with a hint of Volvo like the signature LED light. The thicker livery has been ditched, and the sleek cross-car livery that makes up the bulk of the rear bumper does the job in a modern way.

The interior of Scorpio had already been spied on earlier. Mahindra has taken a traditional approach to the dashboard layout, featuring multiple buttons and knobs for controlling the climate and infotainment system. The interior will be finished in black and brown with leather upholstery. It will come with a 6- and 7-seater seating option with captain’s seats in the middle row for the first. The third row will be bench-only type, and luckily there are no side seats this time around. Prime features on the new Scorpio will include an 8-inch touchscreen and a semi-digital instrument cluster featuring a 7-inch display, dual-zone climate control, a sunroof and multiple airbags.

The new Mahindra Scorpio engine

The Mahindra Scorpio will be on par with the XUV700 in terms of engine specs. The 2.2-liter diesel and 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine will come standard with a 6-speed manual transmission as well as an optional 6-speed automatic transmission. An all-wheel drive option will be available with both engines.

As we head into the middle of the second decade of this new millennium, Mahindra has been the third big thing for a while now after the Thar and the XUV700. The pandemic has also delayed the release of Scorpio, but it will finally hit showrooms in June. Price-wise, the new Scorpio will sit between a lineup of monochrome compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Skoda Kushaq as before. We expect prices to start at around 10 lakh rupees with some variants clashing with the XUV700.
