MTI tests the new 390XR race boat and introduces two new boats for weekend events

Not only did the team at MTI in Wentzville, Mo. , by bringing two new boats to two of its dealers—Performance Boat Center and TNT Custom Marine—for delivery events in Missouri and Alabama this weekend, company owner Randy Skeissem, and customer relations manager, Taylor Skeissem, were able to put together the new TS Motorsports The MTI 390XR race boat in the water Friday afternoon for a quick blackmail session not far from home in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.

Earlier in the week, the speedonthewater.com crew, who were in town filming the upcoming “In The Lead” episode with the MTI founder, got a sneak peek at the team’s new 450R Factory Stock race boat, which this season will be powered by Taylor Scism and throttle John Tomlinson of TNT Custom Marine starting with the season opener next week in Cocoa Beach, Florida. As reported on the site, the team’s first boat launched in the 2021 class test season has been sold to KLOVAR Motorsports Team of owner and driver Randy Keys and throttle Bill Allen.

According to driver who is no longer a novice, Taylor Skissem, the boat performed as expected the first time in the water.

“We didn’t have much opportunity to test (the boat on Friday) because of the boat traffic and wreckage, so we’ll go out first thing in the morning (on Saturday) and I’ll have a better idea of how the boat ride feels,” she said.

After Saturday’s test session, Scism was smiling when she reported to speedonthewater.com.

“Again, we kept the test short this morning because we didn’t want to damage anything before we had to race next week,” she said. “We basically wanted to give everything a complete blackmail to make sure the computer systems, the electronics and the fixtures were all good.

“I am happy with the way it ran – the boat is very stable,” she continued. “It feels a lot like the first boat. We’ve changed some aspects of the creature comforts inside the cockpit and are trying a few different cameras in it this year. My visibility has improved because we’ve made the windows a little bigger. Plus, I’ll be driving from the right side instead of the left side. This season. I thought this might sound a little weirder than it was, but it was fine. It’s not like trying to drive from the other side of the car.”

Scism said most of the races last season – outside of the Lake Race and Key West Offshore World Championships – were turning right, so driving from the right should give her an edge in turning. She added that the team plans to conduct more testing next week with a stop at Mercury Racing Lake in St Cloud, Florida, on its way to the offshore P1 Thunder on Cocoa Beach event.

In the meantime, let’s get back to the two boats that MTI delivered this week. It was featured in the slide show above.

One was a stunning 390X catamaran with twin Mercury Racing 450R engines that the team at TNT Custom Marine had handed over to Clark and Ashley Beecher, Texas boat performers, so that the couple, who planned to drive the boat most of the time in Destin, Florida, could race in Orange Beach Powerboat Week this weekend in Orange Beach, Ala. , hosted by the Florida Powerboat Club. Beechers also has a matching MTI-V 42 in the works.

The other delivery was a luxury five-engine MTI-V 42 performance center console that Ohio’s Jason Tolliver and fiancée Shana Roberts had ordered through the Performance Boat Center. The couple were thrilled with the boat, which they were plying today in Osage Beach, Mo., selling agency Spring Fun Run on the Lake of the Ozarks. Find the full story on Tolliver’s stunning 42-foot footer next week at speedonthewater.com.
