Over 70 affordable housing destinations in the Southwest, but most of them are in Texas

The cliched phrase about everything being bigger in Texas stuck to the purpose of this list, which is completely dominated by the state of Lonestar. No regional neighbor even comes close to offering as many cities as good housing is within the reach of the average person.

Each of the top eight cities offer three-figure rentals, with Abilene, Lubbock, and Killeen at $700 and College Station, San Angelo, and Amarillo at $800. The rest of the list is also filled with cities with less than $1,000 rent, low costs of living and enviable living scores. To sweeten the pot, the median monthly income of $4,908 in Texas is the highest on the list.
