The confrontation near the Jacksonville Zoo ended with the death of 2 and the injury of a police dog

Two people were killed and a K-9 police officer was injured, after a chase led to a confrontation near the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens Friday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

None of the officers was injured during the incident, which the sheriff’s office said involved an exchange of fire between the suspects and a police officer.

Sheriff’s Office Director Jo Kwan told reporters at the scene that police initially received a call to launch an aggravated attack, with reports of gunfire, around 1:52 p.m. near Division Street and Commonwealth Street.

He said that when the officers responded, they were able to locate a suspicious car and began stopping traffic, but that car did not stop, and the chase began.
