New set of photographs from HBO’s upcoming The Last of Us series hint at a recreation of a tense sniper scene from the original video game.
Recent photos and videos taken of The Last of Us sets around Canada have revealed the series looks extremely accurate to its source material. Multiple videos show that the Hunters, a violent gang of ruthless survivors that track down and chase Joel and Ellie, have been faithfully replicated from their video game counterparts. A pivotal hospital scene from the end of The Last of Us was previously teased with photos that recreated the final level of the game in striking detail. These new set images continue to reinforce the series’ adherence to the original PlayStation video game.
Susan Warcholak (sue_dothingsalways) recently shared photographs of a newly constructed set from The Last of Us that hint at a recreation of a tense sniper scene from the original video game. The level in question had Joel and Ellie, along with local survivor brothers Henry and Sam, trek through the outskirts of Pittsburgh as they attempt to escape the ravaged city and its lawless gang of Hunters. As the group navigates through a suburb, they are held in place by a sniper situated at the end of a cul-de-sac. The player, as Joel, must fight from house to house to reach the sniper and take over his nest. Check out the images of the set below.

The set features a cul-de-sac littered with rundown vehicles in a street overgrown with vegetation and covered in scattered debris. The buildings and walls appear to be façades, indicating that the majority of the scene’s action will take place in the street, most likely leading up to the large house centered at the far end. That building will presumably house the sniper, perhaps in the open window facing the street.
Upon The Last of Us‘ release, the game went on to be loved by audiences and won numerous awards for its storytelling and gameplay. The title was praised for its horror elements and nerve-wracking action sequences, with the sniper scene singled out as one of the game’s memorable moments. If the upcoming series can reproduce the suspense and terror the original game inflicted upon its players, then HBO’s The Last of Us will undoubtedly have audiences on the edge of their seats.
